Christopher was thrust into the public eye in November 2002 when he joined the BBC hit soap EastEnders playing Spencer Moon the much younger brother of Alfie (Shane Richie).
He quickly established himself as one of the soap's most popular characters particularly with the show's younger viewers.
In his two and a half year stint on the Square, Chris was involved in some dramatic storylines including the fatal crash that killed Jamie Mitchell and getting Vicki Fowler pregnant. Chris's final scenes were screened in January 2005.
So how did he land the part in EastEnders?
In Chris's own words........
I had been up for a few parts in EastEnders, one was for a guy called Matthew who played Janine's love interest when she was a prostitute and one was the Pizza Store Manager when Charlie the taxi driver lost his job.
I am very self critical and when I go to auditions I always think I could have done better and pick my performance to pieces but for some reason my EastEnders auditions seemed to go really well, it was just that those parts weren't suited for me. I had been attending workshops with a lady called Julia who was the casting director at the time although she has now been promoted. I wasn't sure what they were for but I was having a lot of fun.
I then had an interview with Louise the executive producer and a final screen test with Shane Richie, on the set in full costume and make up. At this point there were only 3 of us left in the running for the part. Myself, Jo Swash, who now plays Mickey and a guy called Lee.
The competition was tough and I thought the screen test went awful as I was really nervous but the next day I was to have some good news. I was filming an advert for a washing powder, it was a long day and we were about 2/3rds the way through it. We were having a tea break and one of the runners came over to me and said I needed to call my agent ASAP. I got my phone. Karen, my agent who deals with all of my commercials wanted to give me a casting for the next day and then said that Theresa (my acting agent) wanted a word. I thought that seeing as Karen had given me a casting and sounded really normal it would be that Theresa was going to give me bad news and tell me that I was unsuccessful with the EastEnders job. Theresa came on the phone and I said " It's bad news isn' t it?" She replied saying that EastEnders would like to offer me the job and she thinks I should take it. Was she mad? Of course I was going to take it! But I couldn' t speak as I was in shock and I dropped the phone.
I promptly phoned her back and said that I would like to accept the offer, she said that I had to keep it a secret but it was too late, everyone on the shoot with me that day knew!!!! How could I keep that a secret!
